Robert A. "Bob" Thrower

1914 - 2011

Robert A. "Bob" Thrower, 96, of Beardstown, died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
He was born Sept. 6, 1914, in Malden, Mo., the son of Clarence and Elva Lindsey Thrower. He married Anna Louise Cokenour on Dec. 30, 1935, in Beardstown, and she preceded him in death in February 1981. He then married Mary Self Lancaster on Oct. 23, 1982, at the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Thrower of Beardstown; his daughter, Barbara (husband, James) Robinson of Palmyra, Mo.; his granddaughter, Karen (husband, Rev. Randall) Schrock of Lacrosse, Ind.; three great-grandchildren, Rachel, Jonathan and Sarah Schrock; and two sisters, Alberta Colston of Glasford and Mary Hobbs of Mount Olive. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Anna; his son, Kenneth; and three brothers, Floyd, Merle and Vivan.
Mr. Thrower was employed with Montgomery Ward in Beardstown for 20 years and then at Gambles in Beardstown for 20 years until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed bowling and building model airplanes.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Burial will be at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Memorials have been suggested to Beardstown Ambulance.
