Dale F. Sexton, 76, of Waverly, died late Tuesday evening, April 1, 2014, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Jan. 29, 1938, in Waverly, son of the late Porter and Lula Roberts Sexton. He married Kay Atchison on April 11, 1970, in Jacksonville, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Robin Lea Woods of Waverly and Jennifer Jill Tapscott and companion Wil Delaney of South Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Brady, Bre, Clayton, Adisyn, and Jace; one sister, Shirley Ashbaugh of Waverly; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and sisters-in-law Norma Sexton of Roodhouse and Wanda Sexton of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Terri Ann Sexton; sister Joyce Ryan and infant sisters Marjorie and Jean Sexton; brothers John Sexton and Perry Sexton and a infant brother, Brian Sexton.
Dale was a 1957 graduate of Waverly High School. He was a past employee of Kordite/Mobil in Jacksonville before becoming a Morgan County Sheriff's deputy and a city police officer in Murrayville, retiring in 1999. He loved woodworking, and loved working outdoors, but his greatest love was for his family and especially his grandkids.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial will be at Waverly East Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
