Delbert L. Dawdy, 75, of Roodhouse, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at his residence.
He was born May 18, 1938, in Hillview, the son of William and Ona Pence Dawdy. He married Lorraine Young on Dec. 24, 1967, in Seaside, Calif.
Surviving is his wife, Lorraine Dawdy of Roodhouse; children, Delbert Dawdy Jr., Del (wife, Jennifer) Dawdy, Danelle Dawdy and Dede (companion, Ronald Gaffney) Dawdy, all of Roodhouse; six grandchildren, Dylan Gaffney, Timmy Ross, Dawson Dawdy, Jake Reynolds, Christopher Dawdy and Tuesday McDonald; three great-grandchildren, Kaydence, Sean and Coltin McDonald; one sister, Neta Rose Burbridge of Jacksonville; and a lifelong friend, David March of White Hall. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Dawdy; four sisters, Norma Blakey, Thelma Surbeck, Wilma Barnard and Loraine Wooldridge; and one brother, William Dawdy Jr.
Delbert was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran. He served many tours of duty in various countries, including Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Roodhouse American Legion and VFW.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Roodhouse, with interment at the Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Pine Tree Cemetery or the VFW.
