Delbert L. Looker (1924 - 2013)

Delbert L. Looker, 88, of Waverly, died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 21, 2013, at his residence.
He was born June 21, 1924, in Jacksonville, son of the late Delbert G. and Mary E. Shawen Looker. He first married Etheleen Tannahill in August 1948. He later married Dolores M. Lehr on May 21, 1984, in Springfield, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Gary Looker and wife Terri of Waverly, Michael Looker and wife Ellen of Chatham and Danny Looker and wife Kelly of Lehi, Utah; a stepdaughter, Tina Anderson and husband Ralph of Rochester; a stepson, Kevin Schofield and wife Michele of Auburn; 10 grandchildren, Sarah Turner and husband Lucas and Michelle Looker, all of Chatham, Amy Dahlkamp and husband Matt of Springfield, Dylan Schofield and Josh McGuire of Auburn, Brian Anderson of Jupiter, Fla., Michelle Cox and husband Jordan of Springfield, Karen Anderson of Rochester, Christy White of Springfield and Holley Looker of Champaign; three great-grandchildren, Brady Turner of Chatham, Reese Anderson of Jupiter, Fla., and Tristan White of Springfield; one sister, Beulah Bennett and husband Charles of Rainier, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael D. Looker; and one brother, Frank Looker.
Mr. Looker was employed by Fiat/Allis Company in Springfield for over 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in both World War II and the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. He was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed dancing and farming. He also enjoyed making and flying model airplanes and collecting antique model cars and tractors. He was a lifetime member of Jacksonville Harmony Masonic Lodge 3 A.F. & A.M.
A visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday following the visitation. Private burial will take place at Jacksonville East Cemetery in Jacksonville. Memorials may be made to Waverly Fire and Rescue Squad. Condolences may be left to the family online at
