The Rev. Deacon John Dorr Wilson Jr., 89, of Chatham, formerly of Pontiac, passed away into his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at 4:20 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
John was born on Aug. 20, 1924, in LaGrange, the only child of John Dorr Wilson Sr. and Helen (Thatcher) Wilson. On Sept. 30, 1950, John married Alverda Gyneth Olson. John and Alverda began their life together and had four children - Gail, John, Wendy, and Mary Ruth.
John is survived by his wife, Alverda Wilson; his children, Mary Ruth Landes of Chatham, Wendy (David) VanGiesen of Jacksonville, and Gail Howard of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Madeline Landes of Chatham, Jessica Wilson (Chris) Toews of Atlanta, Georgia, Laura (Brian) Meier of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jaclyn Wilson (Josh) Miles of Louisville, Kentucky, and Jennifer (Mark) Hutzal of Osseo, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Clive Toews, Zenon Hutzal, Adele Miles, and Mason Miles; one niece; and two nephews. He is preceded in death by one son, John Dorr Wilson III, and his parents.
John graduated from LaGrange High School in 1942 and later attended the University of Illinois.
