Larry Allen Griffin, 69, of Jacksonville, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Kindred Hospital in Springfield.
Larry was born Sept. 12, 1943, in Jacksonville, the son of John and Ethel Barret Griffin. He married Kathryn Thomas on Jan. 6, 1984, in Sedora.
Larry was a 1962 graduate of Bluffs High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He worked for Mobil Chemical Company in Jacksonville and also worked for the Arkansas River Barge Company. He was a member of the Lord's Congregation in Jacksonville and also the American Legion 279.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roy Lee and Eddie Griffin.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn "Katie" Griffin of Jacksonville; three sons, Clinton Griffin of Jacksonville, Wes Wilkinson of Chapin and Christopher Wilkinson of Fort Polk, La.; two daughters, Joye (husband, Ray) Overton of Jacksonville and Donna Campbell of New Bern, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Jimmy Griffin of Hawaii; and a few aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society. The family will be hosting a memorial gathering from 1 p.m. until the time of the memorial ceremony at 2 p.m. on Monday at Lord's Congregation, 2248 W. Morton Ave., Jacksonville.
