Richard Grimes Norris, 71, of Springfield, died at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at St. John's Hospital.

Richard was born Sept. 23, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Dr. Harold V. and Harriet Grimes Norris. He married Patricia Coughlin on June 23, 1973, in Winchester.

Richard graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory School in St. Louis and attended St. Mary's University and Illinois College. He graduated from Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Neb., and was admitted to the Bar in 1975. He was proud of his families' decades of commitment to medicine and education. He had unconditional love and support for family and dear friends. Richard was a voracious reader and skilled golfer with a near encyclopedic knowledge of the game of golf, golf equipment, and of the professional players who walked the course. His sense of humor and quick wit will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Virgil E. Coughlin; and his faithful companion of 16 years, soft coated wheaten terrier, Murphy.

He is survived by his soul mate and wife of over 40 years, Patricia Norris of Springfield; one son, Dr. Christopher (wife, Jennifer) Norris of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Dr. Stephanie (husband, Dan) Bitner of Springfield and Elizabeth (husband, Adam) Hendrickson of St. Louis; one brother, Stephen (wife, Diane) Norris of Schaumburg; two sisters-in-law, Susan (the late Frank) Norris of Bloomington and Carol (the late Thomas) Norris of Jacksonville; mother-in-law, Marjorie Coughlin of Bluffs; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
