Wayne LeRoy Bauch (1932 - 2013)

Wayne LeRoy Bauch, 81, of Mount Sterling passed away at 3 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mount Sterling.

He was born October 24, 1932, in Brown County, the son of Edwin and Mary Kleinlein Bauch. He married Carolyn Martin on April 19, 1962, in Baylis, and she survives.

Mr. Bauch served as a mechanic and foreman for Mount Sterling Implement Company in Mount Sterling for 46 years, retiring in 1996. Wayne was known all over western Illinois as an excellent mechanic specializing in baler and chainsaw repair. After retiring from the implement company, Wayne worked for two years for the Elkhorn Township road commissioner. He then spent the next 15 years working for Deer Ridge Auto Parts in Mount Sterling.

He attended Grove School in Brown County and received his diploma from Brown County High School in May 2002.

Mr. Bauch was a veteran of the Korean War, having served his country in the United States Army.

Wayne was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Sterling. He also was member of Mount Sterling American Legion Post #374 and a former member of Timewell American Legion Post #1059. He was proud of having recently attended the 13th Great River Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Wayne especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's many sporting events and he loved fishing, hunting, walking and caring for his dogs and cats. He also truly enjoyed the many conversations he had with his numerous friends over a cup of coffee.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bauch of Mount Sterling; two daughters, Roxie Huffman and her husband, Michael, of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Kathy Yingling and her husband, Larry, of Mount Sterling; five grandchildren, Brooke Huffman Heckinger and her husband, Kevin, of Bettendorf, Iowa, Jason Huffman and his wife, Marissa, of Fort Madison, Iowa, Seth Yingling and his fiancee, Stephanie Darrah, Jared Yingling and Jenna Yingling, all of Mount Sterling; and one great-grandson, Sawyer Heckinger; he was anxiously awaiting the birth of his second great-grandson. His mother-in-law, Uvadell Martin of Mount Sterling, also survives along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Melvin and Ralph Bauch; and two sisters, Aylene Koch and Bernadine McDannald.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013, at Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling with the Rev. Aaron Foster officiating. Burial will be in Hersman Cemetery south of Mount Sterling. A military service will be conducted at the graveside. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends also may call from 8 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Mount Sterling or the Great River Honor Flight.
