William E. "Bill" Mueller, 85, of Beardstown, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Pana, the son of William P. and Elsa A Schloz Mueller. He married Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Krems on Aug. 27, 1950, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, and she preceded him in death Nov. 19, 2007.
Surviving are his children, Paul (wife, Penny) Mueller and Carol (husband, Larry) Cummings, both of Springfield; three grandchildren, Sarah (husband, Jim) Johnson, Aaron Cummings and Rob Mueller; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Hollis; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Cole, Taylor and Clay; and his special friend, Iva Stock of Beardstown. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.
Bill graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1945. He joined the U.S. Army from 1946-1948 and then graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign with a degree in electrical engineering. He retired from CIPS in 1989, after 37 years of service. He currently worked at Benton & Associates in Jacksonville. Bill was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, where he had previously served as Church Council President. He was also a member and former Exalted Ruler of BPOE Elks Lodge 1007 in Beardstown and current president of Beardstown Sanitary District. Bill enjoyed golfing and building model airplanes.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. Burial will be at Oetgen Cemetery near Beardstown. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials have been suggested to First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown.
