Chuck Berendes, 64, of Versailles, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center.
He was born April 25, 1947, in Springfield, the son of George and Geraldine Blackburn Berendes. He married Cathy Riley on June 5, 1976, in Chambersburg, and she survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Camella (Clint) Hendricker of Versailles; three grandchildren, Dillon, Chyanne and Austyn; brother, Ken (Cheryl) Berendes of San Jose, Calif.; sister, Barb Berendes (partner, Maggie Ludwig) of Springfield; mother-in-law, Patsy Riley of Chambersburg; brother-in-law, Kirk (Donna) Riley of Warrensburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Clark Travis Berendes (surviving wife, Mandy Daniels of Griggsville); two brothers, Paul Berendes (surviving wife, Bonnie of Springfield) and Loren Berendes; and his father-in-law, Glen Riley.
Mr. Berendes was a 1965 graduate of Springfield Lanphier High School. He worked for National Starch & Chemical in Meredosia for 26 1/2 years and was a proud member of Boilermakers Local 484. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and helping his father-in-law at the farm and Riley's Service Station in Chambersburg. He also enjoyed spending time with his son, Clark, and traveling with him in his semi, and spending time with his daughter, Camella. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Baylis Cemetery. The family will meet friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home of Meredosia. Memorials are suggested to the family. Condolences may be left at www.buchanancody.com.
