David L. Custer, 68, of Greenfield, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at his home.
He was born June 4, 1940, to Wayne and Dorthy (Adcock) Custer in Carrollton. He married Sharon Thornton on Sept. 23, 1960, in Wrights, and she survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Kimberly (Steven) Sipes of Pana; two sons, Bryan (Rosjean) of Hartford and Todd (LaShelle) of Greenfield; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Greta Warren of Carrollton, Mary Young of Grafton and Dorothy Riedy of California; six brothers, Donald of Brighton, Frank of White Hall, Gale of Murrayville and James, Roland and Kenneth, all of Carrollton. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Florin and Jerry Neal; and two great-granddaughters, Kasey and Karmen Zahradka.
Mr. Custer was a steelworker for Laclede Steel for 38 years and also drove a school bus for the Greenfield School District for the past 11 years. His hobbies included tractor and truck pulls, boating, horses, hunting, school sports, four wheeling and spending time with his family.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Charity Southern Baptist Church in Greenfield. Burial will follow at Oak Wood Cemetery near Greenfield. Memorials are suggested to the Greenfield Tiger Backers or the
