Emma J. Smothers Lyons Winchester, 84, of Jacksonville, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 29, 2012, at her residence.
She was born June 2, 1927, in New Hartford, the daughter of Lawrence J. and Myrtle Vance Smothers. She married Wesley Lyons on Oct. 26, 1944, in Griggsville, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1968. She later married Charles Winchester on Feb. 20, 1970, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2005.
She is survived by two sons, Rick Lyons and Dan Lyons, both of Jacksonville; three daughters, Peggy (husband, Everett) Johnson, Debra Lyons and Gena Lyons, all of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Betty (husband, Jim) Brasel of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by one son, Nick Lyons; one daughter, Beth Parrish (surviving husband, Jack of Beardstown); and two brothers, Walter Smothers and Lawrence Smothers.
Mrs. Winchester was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family dearly. She had attended the Jacksonville Assembly of God. She enjoyed shopping with her daughters, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Griggsville Cemetery in Griggsville. The family will meet friends from 10-12 Friday at Williamson Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
