Born March 29, 1914 in Jacksonville, and passed away in Bal Harbour, Fla., Tuesday, June 12, 2012, daughter of James E. and Adeline Smith Rawlings.
Mrs. Lewis completed her undergraduate studies at MacMurray College, received a graduate degree from Millikin University and continued graduate work at the University of Illinois. Mrs. Lewis taught school for several years in Waverly and New Berlin before teaching 34 years in the Springfield public school system. Mrs. Lewis was an accomplished vocalist, performing for many years in central Illinois.
Mrs. Lewis was predeceased by her husband, Roy; and survived by two daughters, Rebecca Linney of Cape Neddick, Maine, and Rowena Gerber, of Bal Harbour, Fla.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by grandson, Christopher L. Linney of Maine; brother, Wendell Rawlings of Jacksonville; and sister, Genevieve Brown of Waverly.
A Memorial Service and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Franklin United Methodist Church, Main Street in Franklin Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. Following burial at Providence Cemetery, a reception with family and friends will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall.
