Carroll Eugene "Gene" Clark, 76, of Ashland, died peacefully Monday, March 30, 2009, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born Aug. 12, 1932, in rural Menard County, the son of Eugene and Carrie Davis Clark. Fifty-four years ago, he married Marlene Schneider on June 12, 1954, in Adams, Mass., and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Donna Hand (husband, Rick) and Sandra Gutmann (husband, Chuck), all of Ashland; five grandchildren, Stephanie Inman, Christine Hand, Ronnie Inman, James Hand and Nathanael Hand; two brothers, Dwight Clark of Petersburg and Joseph Clark of Merrimack, N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia Winters and Janola Hobbs; and two brothers, Cecil and Dale Clark.
Gene graduated from Petersburg Harris High School and served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was employed as an electrician until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ashland United Methodist Church in Ashland, with burial at Ashland Cemetery.
