Harold R. "Pudgie" Crum, 89, of Rockbridge, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Veterans' Home in Quincy.
He was born Sept. 27, 1920, in Rockbridge, to Robert and Lillie Meneley Crum. He married Aileen Crossman on Oct. 31, 1949, in Jacksonville, and she preceded him in death.
Surviving is one sister, Jean Gombos of Rockbridge. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Crum.
Mr. Crum was a self-employed contractor. He served in the Army/Air Force during World War II as a flight engineer on a B-17. He was a POW in the Crims-Austria prison camp for 19 months. He was a member of the Greenfield American Legion Fitzsimmons Post 225 and a 1937 graduate of Rockbridge High School.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday. Burial will follow at Witt cemetery in Rockbridge with full military rites provided by American Legion Fitzsimmons Post 225. Memorials are suggested to American Legion Fitzsimmons Post 225.
