Mr. Jack G. Bell, 74, of Springfield, died peacefully at his home with his family by his side after a lengthy illness Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009.

He was born in Fairbury Sept. 27, 1934, the son of Bernard W. and Lola Jane Yount Bell. He graduated from University High School in Normal, and then from the Illinois State University, where he earned BS in Physical Education. He married Kay Hodgdon in Lincoln on April 8, 1960, and she survives. His parents; a brother; and his sisters all preceded him in death.
Jack retired in 1991 as the deputy director of the Bureau of Disability Determination Services. He was a diehard Cub fan, an avid golfer and fisherman.
In addition to his wife Kay, surviving are his two sons, Jeffery (wife, Rita) Bell of Springfield and Scott (wife, Karin) Bell of Jacksonville; his four grandchildren, Brian Bell of Springfield, Erek Bell of Jacksonville, Connor Bell of Springfield and Emily Bell of Jacksonville; a niece, Jan (husband, Earl) McCarroll of East Peoria; a nephew, Jim Barnhart of Washington, Ill.; a dear friend, Morgan Drake of Jacksonville; and a dear friend and caregiver, Karen Eickenberg of Chatham.
Cremation rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory. Private family services are pending. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions in his memory to the Memorial Home Care, 644 N.
