John F. Brown, 76, of Bluffs, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at his home in Bluffs.
He was born June 26, 1936, in Brown County, the son of George Weatherford and Reba Elizabeth Roate Brown.
Surviving are three daughters, Rona Kay (husband, Rob) Ransom of Meredosia, Tina Jo Klopfer of Bluffs and Tia Marie Brown of Meredosia; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters. Nine brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
John was very active all his life. He was a farmer for Leroy Castle for years, until the Village of Bluffs offered him a job as the water and sewer plant supervisor. He was employed there until he retired. He was also a school bus driver during that period. He was a treasurer for the I.O.O.F. He was the Fire Chief for the Village of Bluffs. Since retiring he has worked with local area water plants testing their water. In his spare time he liked to hang out with his friends. He would take his Volkswagen "Thing" to local parades and have his grandkids ride with him. He was a member of the LaGrange Chapel and the Perry Presbyterian Church. He was very devoted to his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Bluffs, with interment at Fairview Cemetery near Bluffs. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Meredosia-Bluffs Rescue Squad.
