John Robert Long, 69, of Jacksonville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born Aug. 17, 1943, in Beardstown, the son of Robert George and Alice Marie Hays Long.

He is survived by his sister, Carolyn (husband, Garth) Cripe of Astoria; a sister-in-law, Joan Lebkuecher of Glen Carbon; his uncle, John (wife, Evelyn) Hays of Jacksonville; three nephews; one niece; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his half brother, Chuck Lebkuecher; and six grandparents.

John was a resident of Lincoln Developmental Center initially and had been a resident of Jacksonville Developmental Center until his passing. He attended workshops at Pathway and enjoyed all its activities. John loved chocolate M&M's, chocolate milk, hamburgers, fries and cookies, and also his biological family and his family of caregivers through the years.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
