Mary Margaret Blackburn, 92, of Virginia and Champaign, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
She was born May 25, 1920, in Springfield, the daughter of Dr. William and Emily Riley Blackburn.
She is survived by several cousins; and a special friend, Jan Kiley of Champaign. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary Margaret was a graduate of Virginia High School and MacMurray College. In 1942, she embarked upon a 38-year career in teaching at Snicarte and Virginia. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Virginia, the American Legion Auxiliary, PEO and Order of Eastern Star, where she formerly served as Worthy Matron. She was also a devoted former director of Illini Girls State, held annually on the MacMurray College campus in years past.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia. Committal services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. Jan and family will meet friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia. Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, MacMurray College, or the Women's Legacy Circle @ Carle Foundation Hospital, 611 W. Park St., Urbana, IL 61801.
