Orville Thompson, 80, of Beardstown, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Evergreen Place in Beardstown.
He was born Oct. 29, 1932, in Brown County, the son of Bert and Irene Hall Thompson. He married the love of his life Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Richardson on March 7, 1953, in Marseilles, and she preceded him in death June 26, 2009.
Surviving are three children, Debbie (husband, Sam) Brannan and Ladd (wife, Susan) Thompson, both of Beardstown, and Donna Thompson Coats of Arenzville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother Burton (wife, Minnie) Thompson of Versailles. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his grandson, Michael Ladd Thompson; and one sister, Elsie Roy.
Orville served in the U.S. Navy in Korea during the Korean War in 1951-1953. He was a member of Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post 1239 in Beardstown. He owned and operated Beardstown Auto Body for over 20 years and was formerly employed with U.S. Corps of Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. Orville also formerly served as Cass County Deputy Sheriff for 21 years and Beardstown Fire Chief. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time at his home on Smith Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Burial will be at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials have been suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice, Evergreen Place Activity Fund or Beardstown Fire Department.
