She attended Spring Hill and Aubrey schools as well as the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University. She married George Hardesty on June 29, 1940, in Denton; they enjoyed 53 years together until his death in 1993. Reta was a stay-at-home mom and is survived by her daughter Susan of Springfield, and sons Mark (Kathy Barrett) of Durango, Colo., and George (Shanna) of Denton, Texas. In 1962, Reta and George moved to Jacksonville, where they resided until their retirement in 1978. They returned to Texas, leaving behind many great friends and neighbors in Lincolnland. Reta was very active in church, civic, and volunteer activities throughout her life. She was an avid bridge player and crossword puzzle solver and will be remembered for her sweet caring soul and good nature. She was a devout Christian, wonderful mother, and loyal friend. She would want to sincerely thank her caregivers at Good Samaritan and Ann's Haven Hospice.

The family requests that memorial considerations be made to the First United Methodist Church Library Fund (201 S. Locust, Denton 76201) or to Ann's Haven Hospice (325 W. McKinney, Suite 101, Denton 76201). If you knew Reta, you're bound to have a good story or two about her; we hope you'll share them with us at a memorial for her being planned for the near future.
