Russell Paul "Rusty" Blackburn, 59, of Roodhouse, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born Sept. 22, 1954, in Jacksonville, the son of Wayne and Vera Wease Blackburn. He married Rosemary Cox on Jan. 1, 1983, in White Hall and she preceded him in death March 31, 2012.
He is survived by a step daughter, Wendy (Bill) Cooper of Roodhouse, two step sons, Chad (Kari) Rice of Carlinville and Jamie Rice of Roodhouse, four step grandchildren, Billy Cooper, David Cooper, Kendall Rice and Connor Rice, three sisters, Mary Lou Blackburn, Judy Harmon, and Pat Fisher, and a step brother Dennis Dawdy. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, step brother Darrell Dawdy, and step sister, Debbie Davis.
Rusty served in the United States Navy, and was a member of the White Hall VFW Post 7684. He aslso was a member of Moose Lodge 865 in Jacksonville, ABATE, and Roodhouse Christian Church. He enjoyed socializing with his friends and family. He worked as maintenance for the USPS in Jacksonville from 1998-2007. He enjoyed camping, motorcycling, and spending time with family.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse with burial to follow at White Hall Cemetery. Visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to ABATE. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com
