Kathryn E. Elmore, 90, of Greenfield, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born March 10, 1922, in Rockbridge, to Durward and Mildred (Rathgeber) Dixon. She married William L. Elmore Jr. on Sept. 29, 1945, in Wood River, and he preceeded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Margaret (Gary) Bridgewater of Rockbridge, Nancy (W.A.) Baker of Midland, Texas, and Penny (Don) Baldes of Carlinville; five grandchildren, Kim (Josh) McAdams of Rockbridge, Jeff (Cindy) Baker of Dubai, UAE, Derek (Brooke) Baker of Ipswitch, Mass., and Scott Baldes of Alexandria, Va.; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanne Roady of Nashville, Tenn. She was preceded in death by one brother, D.B. Dixon Jr.; and one grandson, Brett Bridgewater.
Mrs. Elmore was a 1940 graduate of Rockbridge High School, an active volunteer for the American Red Cross, 50-year member of the Elizabeth Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, member of the PEO Chapter H.J. in Greenfield and a member of the Methodist Church since childhood.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial will follow at the Witt Cemetery near Rockbridge. Memorials are suggested to the Witt Cemetery, Siteman Cancer Center or donor's choice.
