Stanley James Patterson, 81, of Manchester, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester, with family by his side.

He was born Oct. 16, 1930, in Martinsburg Township (Pike County), the son of Charles Edwin and Isabelle Fay Orrill Patterson. He married Pauline Fox and she preceded in death in June 1985 and later married Karen Goetsch Orrill on Sept. 8, 1990, in Winchester, and she survives.
He is also survived by his children, Stanley (Jamie) Patterson of rural Pittsfield, Janet (Sid) Barrett of Barry and William Patterson of Overland Park, Kan.; three grandchildren, Chris Patterson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ashley Merrick of Barry and Vanna Patterson of Pittsfield; two great-grandchildren, William and Kristina Gerecke, both of Barry; nine siblings, Lee (Barb) Patterson and Donna Smothers, both of Pittsfield, Dorothy (Gary) Kindhart of Browning, Wanda Patterson of Colorado, Sara Peter of Odessa, Mo., John (Becky) Patterson of Roseville, Mich., Linda Trower of Vandalia, Mo., Beverly (Bill) Saxbury of Versailles and Bob Patterson of Odessa, Mo.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Kristina Patterson; and one brother, Bill Patterson.
Mr. Patterson was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Winchester and a lifetime VFW member. He started a lifelong career in truck driving at age 16, working for local farmers and then Wheellock and Eastern and Roadway, before retiring in 1990. He enjoyed his family, gardening, playing cards, fishing, working in the timber and caring for his hogs and sheep.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Winchester, with burial at Goodin Cemetery, south of Pittsfield. A visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Memorial contributions are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or
