William Steven Hipkins, 70, of South Jacksonville, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 21, 1942, in Jacksonville, the son of Roland Raymond and Dorothy L. Witwer Hipkins. He married Diana Kearns on Dec. 16, 1967, at the Church of God in Jacksonville, and she survives.
He is also survived by three children, Stephanie Bezler (husband, Steve) of Jacksonville, Jarrod Hipkins of Springfield and Tara Kirk (husband, Bryan) of Chatham; eight grandchildren, Brooke and Morgan Hipkins, Lauren, Anna, Emilie and Jack Bezler and Ava and Haden Kirk; and one sister, Gayle Lake of Carrollton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carole McDannold; and a brother, Kim Hipkins.
Mr. Hipkins graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1961 and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He served in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the family to meet friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the
