Audrey Virginia Kemp, 90, of rural Roodhouse for many years, and most recently a permanent resident of Lewis Memorial Christian Village since November 2008, died peacefully Saturday, July 7, 2012.

She was born Nov. 3, 1921, at home in Manchester, the daughter of Charles and Alma Blakeman Martin. She married Carl W. Kemp of Roodhouse on Halloween in 1941, in Roodhouse.
Audrey was a member of Barrow Baptist Church for over 60 years. She and Carl volunteered in several states for the Roving Volunteers in Christ's Service during many winter months. Audrey graduated from Normal University in Normal. She taught school for two years in Greene County.
She is survived by her son, James (Wendy) Kemp of Libertyville; five grandchildren, Todd (Kathryn) Hazelwood, Tracy (Rick) Hatfield, Nicole (Cory) Nichols, Jennifer Kemp and Gretchen Kemp; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Elizabeth Harris of Hayes, Va., and Marilyn (Bill) Israel of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 2005; a daughter, Carol, in 2009; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Charles Brooks; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mary Martin; their daughter, Joanne; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mabel and Gene Lemon.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Barrow Baptist Church with a visitation with the family before the service at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Barrow Baptist Church, Route1, Roodhouse, IL 62082 or Lewis Memorial Christian Village, 3400 W. Washington St., Springfield, IL 62711.
