James J. "Jim" Conover, 80, of Chapin, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Monticello, Mo., the son of James Oliver and Leta Pearl Allen Conover. He married Margaret E. "Betty" Coleman on Nov. 10, 1956, and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Jimmy Conover and Ron (Ginger) Conover, both of Jacksonville; two daughters, Becky (Warren) Beadle of Chatham and Chrissy (Mickey) Collins of Chapin; two grandchildren, Adam Conover of South Jacksonville and Melissa Conover (Josh Kendall) of Griggsville; a great-granddaughter, Gracie Conover of South Jacksonville; and two brothers, Bobby Conover and Billy Conover, both of Florida. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Bringer and Mary Lou Robbins.
Mr. Conover was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He had worked as a union painter for many years. Jim loved playing the guitar, and played in several area Country & Western bands. He especially loved fishing with his kids and grandkids.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Chapin Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to PAWS. Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.buchanancody.com.
