Charles W. "Bill" Mills Jr., 89, of Jacksonville, passed away Friday morning, April 4, 2014 at Passavant Area Hospital.
He was born Nov. 23, 1924, in Modesto, the son of Charles W. and Thelma Alderson Mills. He married Louise Bosch on July 3, 1946 in New York and she survives.
He is also survived by four daughters, Mary Ellen (husband, Steve) Rhodes of Madison, Wis., Susie (husband, Ron) Schaecher, Carol Russell and Jill Mills all of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert P. Mills of Jacksonville; two sisters, Betty Strawn of Alexander and JoAnn Hall of Jacksonville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Chip Mills (surviving wife, Tracy, of Jacksonville) and one sister, Patti O'Connell.
Mr. Mills started in the auto parts business in 1946 and owned and operated Westside Auto Parts in Jacksonville for over 30 years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed golfing, trap shooting, fishing, working at his store, racing his 1936 Plymouth at the Jacksonville Speedway and spending time with his family.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Williamson Funeral Home. The family will meet friends from 2-4 on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to JHS Football or PAWS. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
