Irene Shanahan Hoffman, 96, of Jacksonville, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 3, 2014, at Passavant Area Hospital.
She was born April 10, 1917, in Jacksonville the daughter of James and Mary "Mayme" Sheehan Shanahan. She married Robert W. Hoffman on Oct. 30, 1945, after he returned home from World War II, where he had been a prisoner of war, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1988.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews including, Joe Shanahan Jr., Barbara Verbeke, Mary Lou Owen, Linda McGinnis, Jim Maurer, Mike Moore, Susan Van Metre, Kenneth Hoffman, Connie Kindred, Donald Hoffman, Carolyn (Richard) Bushong, Phyllis, Sandy and Ronald Hoffman, Stacey Wright, Larry Love, and Tom Vedder, and several great nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Woods of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis Shanahan, Bernard Shanahan and Joseph Shanahan; three sisters, Catherine Maurer, Margaret Moore and Mary Shanahan and four nephews, Jerry Shanahan, Donald Magner, Ron Hoffman and George Hoffman.
Mrs. Hoffman graduated from Routt College High School in 1934 and Brown's Business College. She worked for the City of Jacksonville for several years and later owned and operated, along with her husband, Branstiter Printing Co. in Jacksonville for many years. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, the Altar and Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of America and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a faithful Catholic and very generous and charitable to others. She and her husband enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and winters in Arizona with family and friends. She enjoyed following Routt Catholic High School Sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery. The family will meet friends 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Routt Catholic High School, the Church of Our Saviour or
