Doris Marie Beerup, 90, of Waverly, died Sunday evening, April 6, 2014, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.
She was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Waverly, daughter of the late George B. and Nora E. Thompson Dorwart. Doris married John C. Beerup on Feb. 27, 1945, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Waverly, and he survives.
Also surviving are five sons; two daughters; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Rose Dorwart Huson; and her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Morgan.
Doris graduated as an RN from St. John's nursing school in 1944. She worked as a nurse for 12 years at Gottlieb Hospital in Melrose Park. She spent many years as a private nurse in patients' homes. Her Catholic faith was very important to her and she was a devoted churchgoer.
John was, and is in eternity, the love of her life. They celebrated their 69th anniversary their last night at home together. Doris was a gentle loving soul and she will be so missed by all.
A luncheon gathering to celebrate her life and share memories of Doris will be held at noon on Saturday in the basement of the St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Waverly.
