HAVANA - Melvin Lascelles Sr., 90, of Havana passed away at 5:49 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014. He was born on June 7, 1923, in Bath, the seventh son of Frank and Louise (Turner) Lascelles. He graduated from Bath-Lynchburg High School and was a lifelong farmer in Mason County.
On March 15, 1945, in Havana he married Vera Schmidt, who preceded him in death in 2011 after 66 years of marriage. Melvin is survived by three children, Melba (John) Upton of Jacksonville, Marla (Frederick) Weimer of Easton and Melvin (Karla) Lascelles Jr. of Easton; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Blodgett of Havana; and numerous nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
He was a member of Central Christian Church in Havana, a director of the Mason County Farm Bureau and a trustee for Crane Creek Township. Melvin enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends and spent numerous hours serving his church. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Melvin was a friend to all and will be truly missed.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Central Christian Church in Havana with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Memorial contributions can be made to Central Christian Church in Havana.
