Arthur "Pap" Britenstine, 93, of rural Franklin, died Thursday, May 22, 2014, at North Church Nursing and Rehab in Jacksonville.
He was born Jan. 19, 1921, at Happy Hollow, near Nortonville, the son of Joseph and Carrie Wood Britenstine. He married Pauline Kinnett on Aug. 7, 1943, at Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 2009.
Mr. Britenstine is survived by two children, Judy (late husband, Jerry) Bilger of Jacksonville and Marvin (wife, Patty) Britenstine of rural Jacksonville; four grandsons, Kenneth (wife, Joy) Bilger of Champaign, Greg (companion, Tiffany Baker) Bilger of Jacksonville, Marc (wife, Angela) Britenstine of Jacksonville, and Robert J. Britenstine of Adair; three step-grandchildren, Jodie (husband, Kevin) Fernandes of Murrayville, Jamie (wife, Michelle) Gish of Rosemount, Minnesota, and Jeris (husband, John) Austin of Springfield; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jessie and Helen; five brothers, Floyd, Wayne, Jody, Edgar, and Russell, and one in infancy.
"Pap" farmed and raised livestock in the Heartland community, south of Franklin, his entire life, living in the home he had lived in since he was 8 years old. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, and hunting, especially coon hunting, and telling stories about his community and its characters.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at Youngblood Cemetery in Nortonville. The family will meet friends from 11 a.m. until the time of services Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Youngblood Cemetery, Waverly Rescue Squad, or Murrayville-Woodson EAS.
