Joan E. Halligan, 81, of Poplar Grove, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Lewis and Edna Wahl.
She is survived by one daughter, Terry (husband, Scott) Michel of Sharon, Wisconsin; one son, Shane (wife, Janet) Halligan of Ringwood; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Marvin (wife, Natalie) Wahl of Sunnyvale, California, and Myron (wife, June) Wahl of Maquoketa, Iowa. She was preceded in death by one son, Harlan Halligan.
Ms. Halligan graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville and taught elementary school in northern Illinois for many years. She was of the Lutheran faith. She enjoyed teaching and taking care of her many plants and flowers.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to MacMurray College. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
