Barbara Joy Carroll, 73, of Jacksonville, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born July 7, 1938, in London, England, the daughter of Arthur E. and Phyllis May Hill. She married William F. Carroll on Jan. 21, 1967, in England, and he survives.
She is also survived by six children, Gail Frances Carroll of Odenville, Ala., Robert Alfred Horton and Ricky Martin Horton, both of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, England, Ralph John Carroll (wife, Tracey) of Tauranga, New Zealand, Karen Lesley Whomsley (husband, Simon) of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, England, and Darren Lee Carroll (wife, Lissa) of Rickmansworth, Hartfordshire, England; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcia Dressler (husband, Paul) of Swindon, Wittshire, England; and a niece. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Carroll was an auxiliary nurse in England for 25 years before relocating to the United States. She served as an assistant teacher for Pathway School for 15 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Church of England and enjoyed bowling and playing bingo.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Private family committal services will be held later in England.
