Gregory Lee "Mort" Meyer, 63, of Idaho Springs, Colo., and formerly of Beardstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at his residence.

He was born July 28, 1949, in Champaign, the son of Robert O. and Virginia Davis Meyer.
Surviving is his mother, Virginia Meyer of Beardstown; four brothers and sisters, Sonna (husband, John) Livesay of Pana, Wally (wife, Missy) Meyer of Beardstown, and Pam (husband, Tim) Shocklee and Sandy (husband, Sam) Seward, both of St. Louis; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; and his nephew, Matt Meyer.
Mort graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1967 and attended aeronautical training in Tulsa, Okla., where he became a licensed pilot. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown. An avid outdoorsman, Mort was adventurous and daring. He traveled extensively and enjoyed skiing, kayaking, white water rafting, mountain climbing and was a motorcycle enthusiast.
Memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. There will be a private family burial at a later date at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Beardstown. Memorials have been suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown or Cass County Hospice. Condolences may be left to the family at www.airsman-hires.com.
