Robert I. Wood, 78, of Pisgah, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born May 11, 1934, in Jacksonville, the son of Leonard I. and Hazel Longenbaugh Wood. He married Janet Omundson on March 13, 1955, at Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, and she survives.
He is also survived by three children, Terry (husband, Gary) Cully of Pisgah, Ann (husband, Will) Whalen of Jacksonville and Jeff (wife, Melissa) Wood of Depew, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Jill (husband, Craig) Miller of Springfield, Adam (fiancée, Mikki Galloway) Cully of Alexander, Aaron Cully of Pisgah, Cody Conway of Lancaster, N.Y., Dylan (wife, Chrystina) Conway of Depew, N.Y., and Ben Whalen, Jack Whalen and Joe Whalen, all of Jacksonville; two great-grandchildren, Dylan James Conway and Marley Ann Conway; and one sister, Helen Jean Burnett of Waverly. One brother, Byron Wood, preceded him in death.
Bob spent his lifetime farming in the Pisgah community. He earlier worked as a glazer for Voelkel Glass and later Moore Glass Company in Jacksonville following his time as a volunteer in the United States Navy. Bob was a former member of the Pisgah Elevator and Union Baptist Cemetery boards of directors, and was also a member of the Jacksonville Sportsman's Club and Elks Club. Following his retirement, Bob worked part-time mowing the Jacksonville Country Club golf course.
Bob was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. He enjoyed many years of golfing with friends and taking hunting trips to Nebraska and fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada. He loved riding his motorcycle and restoring old tractors, and his daily trips to town to have coffee and play cards. Bob cherished his friends and family.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Williamson Funeral Home. Friends may call after noon on Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will meet friends from 4-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Union Baptist Cemetery at Pisgah or Central Christian Church.
