We celebrate the life of Emet Eugene "Gene" Chaney. He was born Aug. 20, 1929, in Sinclair, son of Ben and Lucy Goodman Chaney. Gene went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, March 5, 2013, after a prolonged illness.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Klawdia Tributsch Chaney along with his sons, David (Sherry) and Bruce; four grandchildren, Jon (Darlene), Jenny, Avram and Zoe; and a great-grandson, Elyjah; three brothers, Clarence (Pat), Richard (Lou) and Joe (Pansy) along with his sister, Pearl (Fred); and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents; three other brothers, Junior, Bill (Gladys) and Frank (Alice); and a sister, Ethyl (Clayton) have preceded him.
Emet met Klawdia while serving in the Army during the Berlin Airlift in Germany. He worked for the City of Jacksonville for 20 years and had a second career working for Anderson-Clayton Foods for an additional 20 years.
Gene loved to study the Bible and to restore antique furniture. He will be greatly missed. Our family would like to thank the staff of St. John's Hospital of Springfield for their compassionate care. Graveside services will be at Camp Butler Cemetery Wednesday at 1 p.m.
