Byron Edward Smith, 62, of Las Vegas, and formerly of Beardstown and Meredosia, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, after a battle with cancer.
He was born March 19, 1950, in Gary, Ind., the son of Lois Berrisford and Amos Smith.
He is survived by one son, Paul M. Smith of Las Vegas; and one daughter Christina Lockwood (husband, Tim) of Hendersonville, Tenn. One granddaughter, Cecilia Lockwood; two brothers, Paul Smith of Mesick, Mich., and Doug Freeman of Winder, Ga.; one sister, Martha Millington of Morton also survives along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Russell R. Smith of Meredosia.
Bryon graduated from Portage High School with the Class of 1967. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served his country in the United States Army from 1967-1975 where he attained the rank of Spec 4.
He loved the Las Vegas 51s baseball team as he and his son always enjoyed watching them play.
Per his request, Byron's body was donated to Medical Education of America for research.
