Freida Roach, 77, of Galesburg, died at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg.
Freida was born July 22, 1935, in Jacksonville, to William Howard Roach and Elsie Mae Davis Roach.
She graduated from Galesburg Senior High School in 1953. In her youth, Freida enjoyed sports and was the shortstop on McCabe's Scrappers girls' softball team and was a bowler for many years. After high school, she went to work at McCellan's Five and Dime Store and then went to work for Intra State Telephone. She was with the telephone company until her retirement after more than 30 years.
Freida enjoyed working in her yard and took great pride in it. She loved to go out to eat and enjoyed collecting movies.
Miss Roach is survived by one sister, Shirley Sutor of Galesburg; one brother, Edwin (Marlene) of East Peoria; two nieces; four nephews; and 25 cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Kenneth.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Mary Runge and Sister Janet Dalton officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the
