Ronald Lee Ferguson Sr., 78, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, at his home in Roodhouse.
He was born June 29,1934, in Springfield, to Patrick and Mary Thelma McBride Ferguson Pope and stepfather Howard Pope, all of Springfield. Ron had two marriages, Vivian Fern Turner Ferguson Kuhn and Debra Ann Grizzle Ferguson. Both preceded him in death.
Ron is survived by six children, Julia (Ron) Moore of Roodhouse, Ronald (Danit) of Henry, Tenn., Christopher of Grantham Lincs, England, Loren (Cari) of Henry, Tenn., Mike (Daria, deceased) of Henry, Tenn., and Frank (Doreen) of Palmersville, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Sheffield of San Antonio and Bonnie Jaross of Mission Viejo, Calif.; one brother, James of Rochester; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mable Monkman and Jean Delany; and two brothers, Mike and Joe.
Ron worked as a chef and a baker. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Ron was a mason, and was a member of the Eagles Club, the American Legion and Odd Fellows Club. Ron was also a cook at the 4-H Club of Jacksonville and enjoyed wood working, camping and playing Santa Claus for the children.
Ron will be laid to rest Monday at 2 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. There will be a wake to follow at JW Lounge on Sixth Street in Springfield. Staab Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
