Rod Drake, 64, of Winchester, passed away Thursday night, May 16, 2013, at his home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1948, in Scott County, the son of the late Verne E. Drake and Norma Jean Wright Simmons. He married Cheryl Gregory on Nov. 22, 1975, in Winchester, and she survives at home, and their children, Brian (Telisa) Drake, Brandy Drake and Brooke (Jeremy) Ford, all of Winchester; grandchildren, Dathan Drake, Gabe Drake, Cameron Ford, Chloe Ford and Trey Drake; a brother, Ron (Linda) Drake of Manchester; and sisters, Connie Sullivan of Manchester and Bonita (Richard) Edwards of Hillview also survive.
Rod was a graduate of North Green High School. He was a Marine in the 3rd Marine Division serving in Vietnam. He was a truck driver working for Equipment Trucking, Dahman Equipment; he had also worked for Anderson-Clayton, Lashcon and in real estate sales. He was a member of Glasgow Baptist Church, Winchester American Legion and VFW, where he had served as commander; he helped with the Legion Burgoo for many years. He enjoyed playing softball, tractor pulling, bowling and drinking coffee with friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Winchester City Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to the Winchester American Legion or the Glasgow Baptist Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.airsman-hires.com.
