Steve Baird, 50, of Waverly, died Monday afternoon, June 10, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born June 8, 1963, in White Hall, the son of the late Stanford and Marilyn Lane Baird.
Surviving are two sisters, Julie Page and husband Larry of Waverly and Marsha Stirsman and husband Jon of Springfield; two brothers, Jerry Baird and wife Deborah of Chatham and Marty Buchanan and wife Debbie of Hillview; his loving caretakers, John Pasley of Waverly, Art McClellan of Waverly and Dorothy Pasley of Waverly, who became like a mother to him; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a maternal grandmother, Dorothy Workman.
Steve was a graduate of North Greene High School in White Hall and enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Spruance. He loved NASCAR and followed Rusty Wallace and Kyle Busch. He loved hosting family gatherings at the holidays and being with all his family.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillview Baptist Church in Hillview, with burial at Pinetree Cemetery near Patterson. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly.
