Marjorie Blair Cowin, 93, of Petersburg, and formerly of Chandlerville, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in rural Petersburg.
She was born July 16, 1919, in Chandlerville, the daughter of James and Goldie Hall Michael. She married Sherrell Blair on Sept. 2, 1941, and he preceded her in death July 22, 1985. She later married Charles Henry Cowin on June 4, 1988, and he preceded her in death March 13, 2003.
She is survived by a son, Dean Blair (wife, Patty) of Maceo, Ky.; a daughter, Barbara Tomlin (husband, Talbert) of Petersburg; two stepchildren, Roy Lee Cowin (wife, Sharon) and Rena Gilmore, all of Kilbourne; four grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Franklin Michael; and a sister, Dorothy Coy Bottens.
Mrs. Cowin was a graduate of Chandlerville High School and attended her 75th Alumni Banquet in 2012. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg. A talented cook and baker, Marjorie enjoyed square dancing, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Petersburg with Pastor Rob Gallion officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery, east of Chandlerville. The family will meet friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church in Petersburg.
