Daniel D. Edwards, 77, formerly of Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Heritage Health Nursing Home in Jacksonville, surrounded by his children, grandchildren and brother.
He was born Oct. 20, 1935, in Athensville, to Clarence E "Peck" and Irene M. (Duckweiler) Edwards. He married Ida Belle Bailey on April 7, 1958. They were later divorced, but remained good friends, and she sat at his bedside and sang at the time of his death.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen S. (Marvin) Cline of Greenfield and Becky A. Edwards of Murrayville; three sons, David E. (Jana) of Chesterfield, Ill., and Canyon, Texas, Richard (Charlotte) of Sedalia, Mo., and Bryan K. of Murrayville; grandchildren, Christina (Mark) Cochran, Mandy Springer, Monica (Justin Maxwell) Edwards, Justdina Edwards, Shereen (James) Adney, Jeremy (Manda) Edwards, James (Jessica) Pesch, Christian Joy Pyle, Jenna Kali Parrish, Rebecca (Jason) Herchey, Joeanna Edwards, Joshua Sweetin, Daryl Haskew, Chris Haskew, Jessica Haskew, Shea Haskew, Heather (Dale) Sullivan, Elizabeth Cline, Travis Edwards and Dustin (Jamie Waugh) Robinson; 31 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor (special friend, Dale Klink) of Morisson; five brothers, Dale (Becky) of Carrollton, Gene (Georgette) of Carlinville, Dean (Shirley) of Murrayville, Larry of Waverly and Lyndell (Reba) of Elgin. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Edwards served from 1954 to 1958 in the U.S. Navy. He was a truck driver and loved to camp and spend time with his family. He had a great sense of humor.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield, where funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow at Oak Wood Cemetery, north of Greenfield with full military rites provided by Legion Fitzsimmons Post 225. Memorials are suggested to the Daniel and Ida Belle Edwards Scholarship Fund.
