Judy Atkins Brownd Judy Ann Atkins Brownd, 73, of Plainview and Monahans, died Saturday, June 11, 2016, at her daughter's home in Aubrey, Texas. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2016, at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview with the Rev. Don Robertson and Pastor Jason Smith officiating. Visitation will be held at the church following the service. A private burial will be held later at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to College Heights Baptist Church, Plainview, TX or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.

Elizabeth Brooks Buhrkuhl CANYON – Funeral services for Elizabeth Brooks Buhrkuhl, 78, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at First Christian Church in Canyon with Charlie Cox officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home of Amarillo. She died June 19, 2016. Elizabeth was born June 7, 1938, in Snyder, to H.C. and Daisy Brooks. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1956 and from West Texas State College in 1960 with a degree in Homemaking. She married Rolland Buhrkuhl on Jan. 2, 1958, at Hale Center. Elizabeth taught school for 19 years and worked with Rolland in his accounting practice for 39 years. They returned to Canyon in 1974. She was a member of Eastern Star. Elizabeth loved her family and loved being "MiMi." She will be remembered for her big heart and her straight forwardness. You never had to wonder where she stood. She will be dearly missed by her family, many friends and clients. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, retired Col. W.C. Brooks, and her son-in-law, Kent Johnson. Survivors include her husband, Rolland Buhrkuhl of Canyon; one son, Randy Buhrkuhl and wife Mary of Canyon; one daughter, Susan Buhrkuhl Johnson, also of Canyon; two grandsons, Sean and James. She is also survived by special friends Janet and Randy Abbott, and a special little girl, Kynleigh Marie Price. Maria Remedios Castillo Funeral Mass for Maria Remedios Castillo, 68, of Plainview will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Nahum Lopez officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Maria passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016, in Lubbock. She was born Dec. 14, 1947, in Mexico to Daniel and Maria de Jesus Hernandez Molinar. She is survived by two sons, Oscar and Lucy Molinar and Fermin Castillo and Michelle Rodriguez; five daughters, Valentina Molinar and James Miner, Deborah and David Stahl, Elida Castillo and Johnathan Valdez, Gloria Castillo and Casey Perez, and Josie Castillo and Johnny Pena; one brother, Daniel Molinar; four sisters, Rosa Irma Molinar, Maria Jesus Molinar, Aurelia Molinar and Socorro Molinar; 28 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one grandson, Jaivyn Joriah Gomez; both parents, two brothers and one sister.

Culwell, Lucy  
Lucy Culwell VIGO PARK -- Lucy Culwell, 94 passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016, in the First United Methodist Church in Tulia. Burial will follow in Wayside Cemetery in Wayside. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Addie Lucille Moore Culwell was born on April 13, 1922, to W.R. and Nannie Moore at Vera, Texas, in Knox County, Texas. She grew up in the Wayside Community where she was an outstanding athlete, winning many honors and was an all-state basketball player. Lucy was very active in the Tulia and Vigo Park communities, serving on many boards and volunteering many hours. She won many awards for her services. The whole community mourns their loss of a very outstanding woman. She was an active member of the Vigo Community Church. She was known as Mommers or Aunt Lucy to many more than just her family. She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Roland Moore; three sisters, Cora Belle Roberts, Lois Culwell and Mildred Littlefield Graham; and one great-grandson, Grayson Swinburn. She is survived by her husband of almost 76 years, John. They lived in the Vigo Park community nearly all of those years and continued to live there until her death. Two daughters, Vicki and Kenneth Littlefield of Vigo Park and Cheryl and Dale Swinburn of Tulia; six grandchildren, Wade Littlefield, Carrol Littlefield, Kenee Borchardt, Chad Swinburn, Scot Swinburn and Dane Swinburn; one sister, Neva Priest Latham of Conway, Ark.; 18 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including Shan Durham that they helped raise. Memorials may be made to the Senior Citizens Center, 619 SE Second St., Tulia, TX or to the First United Methodist Church, 119 N. Briscoe, Tulia, TX 79088. Ferrell, John David  
John David Ferrell John David Ferrell, 44, passed away June 16, 2016, in Abilene, Texas. He was born July 7, 1971, in Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1989 and from Texas Tech University in 1994 with a BBA degree in accounting. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta social fraternity. He was a petroleum landman and worked in the Permian Basin, Gulf Coast and North Texas. He is survived by a son, Sean Ferrell, of Marble Falls and his parents, Jim and Lucy Ferrell of Lubbock. Services are pending.

Ervin K. Koelder Services for Ervin K. Koelder, 86, will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Hale Center with Jimmy Cameron, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hale Center Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Directors on Sunday, June 26, from 6-7:30 p.m. Mr. Koelder was born March 3, 1930, to Eva Rachel Sherman and August Kino Koelder in Hale Center, Texas. He died June 24, 2016, at his residence in Plainview, Texas. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. He married Yvonne "Tillie" Koelder on June 26, 1954, in Cotton Center. He worked for Starnes Gin for 25 years before farming. He loved hunting and fishing and hosted a pheasant hunt every year since 1971. He was a strong supporter and an Honorary Chapter member of the FFA. He volunteered taking food to the Methodist Home and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hale Center. He loved baseball, the Red Raiders and loved his family. He was a man that stood for what was right. He was survived by his wife Yvonne "Tillie" Koelder of Plainview, two daughters, Kathie and her husband, Jimmy Ray of Aubrey, Texas; Karen and her husband Johnny Boyce of Hale Center; Gary Koelder and his wife, Marilyn, of Hale Center; two sisters-in-law, Pat Koelder of Amarillo and Mellonee Jennings of Pampa; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leon Koelder and Calvin Koelder and a sister, Grace Dalton. The family suggest memorial contributions be sent to First United Methodist Church, Box 1258, Hale Center, TX 79041.

Mr. Newsome died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, in Lubbock. Don married Bettie Bolton on Aug. 10, 1957, in Abernathy. He worked for Hastey Construction here in Plainview and taught Sunday school at Colonial Baptist Church where he was a member. He is survived by his wife, Bettie Newsome of Plainview; one son, Billie Newsome and wife Barbara of Plainview; one daughter, Debbi Barcheers and husband Lynn of Hale Center; one brother, Justin Newsome of Tacoma, Wash.; three sisters, Loretta Hastey and husband Maurice of Plainview, Frances Wheeler and husband Wade of Wolfforth and Gail Jarthan of Slaton. He is preceded in death by both parents; six brothers, Charles, Max, Doyle, Jerry, Dale and David Ray Newsome; one sister, Carolyn Newsome; and one grandson, Lin Dale Hodges.
