Margaret Block

Margaret Block Margaret Block, 80, of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Covenant Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Garland Street Church of Christ with J.W. Hamby and Larry Hamby officiating. Interment will follow the service in Plainview Cemetery. Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Family visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today, Jan. 6, 2013, at the funeral home. Lena Margaret Block was born on Oct. 31, 1932, in Halfway, Texas, to Ralph and Virgie Mae (Davis) Block. Margaret lived in Plainview for the majority of her life and worked as a nurse's aide for 35 years. Part of her career in nursing was spent in the polio ward at Plainview Hospital. She was an avid doll collector and she loved playing games, especially bingo and "42." Margaret had a heart for helping people and enjoyed spending time with her family, and her church family at Garland Street Church of Christ. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Vickie Sims, of Springtown, Texas; her brothers, Robert Block and his wife, Ann, of Plainview, and James (Jim) Block and his wife, Mary, of Savoy, Texas; her sister, Elda Stevens, of Orville, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, William John Block and infant, Little Joe Block. The family suggests donations in Margaret's name to the M.D. Anderson Center for Breast Cancer Research at The University of Texas, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX. 77030.
