John passed away at home on July 30, 2012, after a two-year, very brave and stubborn battle with lung cancer. John was born in Plainview, Texas, on Dec. 29, 1955, to C.B. and Faye Fondren. He had two younger brothers, Tim and Dan. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1974, and was a member of DeMolays, achieving the Degree of Chevalier. He worked for R.C. Mangum Machine in Plainview as a machinist, then IBM in Fort Stockton, Texas, and in Lexington, Ky. Later he returned to Plainview and opened Professional Business Machines. In 1987, he moved to Lubbock and worked for Hester's Office Center. He married Tracy Strawn in September 1988. They had two children, Sean and Beth. John was a devoted father, always thinking of and worrying about his kids. John opened Medical Accounting and Time Solutions in Lubbock, where he worked up until his death. He was known for refusing to give up until the job was done, and tireless dedication to customer service. He was a good friend, a loyal American and a faithful Christian who loved working in his garden, fishing and hunting, and he had a great sense of humor. John is survived by his wife, children, parents-in-law Ronald and Shirley Strawn, and his brothers, and the nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and out-laws who love him dearly.
