Guy Walser Obituary

Guy Walser HEREFORD - Masonic graveside rites for Guy Walser, 97, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m at the Lamar Room of King's Manor Methodist Retirement Home with the Rev. Don Larkin, the Rev. Kyle Streun and the Rev. Joe Schultz officiating. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home of Hereford. Mr. Walser died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at West Gate Nursing Center of King's Manor Methodist Retirement Home. He was born to Charles and Sara Walser on Oct. 21, 1909, in the Prairie View community near Chillicothe. His family moved to Summerfield when he was 7 years old. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1928 and attended Texas Tech University and West Texas State University. He married Rebecca Glenn Curry on Sept. 17, 1932, in Clovis, N.M. He farmed and raised cattle in Summerfield until his retirement in 1995. He was a 50-year member of the Hereford Masonic Lodge #849 AF & AM, the Oasis Shrine Club, the Khiva Shriners and the Scottish Rite. He was a deacon at Summerfield Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed traveling. Survivors include two sons, Ken Walser and wife Dianne of Prosper and Wayne Walser of Higgins; two daughters, Betty Hayes and husband Cleatis of Lockney and Bobbie Purcell and husband Jene of Higgins; one sister, Leatrus Clark of Cedar Park; one daughter-in-law, Nicky Anderson and husband Dave of Hereford; a very special friend, Clora Smith of Hereford; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren. His wife; one son; and three great-grandchildren are deceased. The family will receive friends at Parkside Chapel Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. today and requests memorials to Samaritan Hospice, 400 Ranger, Hereford, TX 79045 or King's Manor Methodist Retirement Home, 400 Ranger, Hereford, TX 79045.
