Dale H. George, 90, of Monon passed away Feb. 21, 2014 at Jasper County Hospital Alternacare.
Dale was born in Parr, Ind. on Dec. 19, 1923, the son of Estel George and Ida (Hurley) George. He was raised in the Parr and Fair Oaks area and was a 1942 graduate of Fair Oaks High School.
Dale joined the U.S. Army in 1943, attaining the rank of sergeant during World War II with the Service Company #1, 1610th Service Command Unit until his discharge in 1946.
He returned home and was married in Rensselaer on June 14, 1946, to Helen Louise Bulington. Dale was a farmer, a career which he truly loved. He was also employed with U.S. Steel Gary Works, retiring in 1972.
A strong Christian man, Dale was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church. He enjoyed time spent with family at their lake home in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan, loved sports and Indiana University basketball, fishing, hunting and bowling. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Eagles and American Legion Post #29.
Surviving with his loving wife Louise are two children, Kenneth D. (Susan) George and Linda (Hugh) Davis, both of Monon; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Glen, Arthur and Lyle George; and a sister, Helen Hansen.
Friends will be received at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Monday, Feb. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer with Chaplain Robert Rawlins officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rensselaer with military rites.
Memorials may be made to the Monon United Methodist Church or the Jasper County Home Healthcare and Hospice.
