Gerald J. Miller Sr.(1916 - 2013)

Gerald J. Miller Sr., 96, of Rensselaer passed away April 16, 2013 in Rensselaer.
Gerald was born April 17, 1916 in Rensselaer to Arthur Roscoe Miller and Anna Louise (Zabel) Miller. He was a lifetime resident of Jasper County and was a self-employed farmer.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. Gerald attained the rank of sergeant with the 19th Air Depot Group where he was an AP and engine mechanic. Gerald was in the North African Campaign, receiving the European-Asiatic Middle Eastern Ribbon with 1 battle star.
On March 4, 1946 Gerald married Evelyn N. Huller at the home of his parents in Rensselaer. Evelyn passed away Jan. 11, 2010.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer, a life member of VFW Post #1279 and a member of American Legion Post #29, both of Rensselaer.
Gerald is survived by his loving family, son, Gerald John (Margaret) Miller Jr. of Rensselaer; granddaughter, Jaclyn (Brian) Koehl; great-grandchildren, Evan and Elise Koehl of Santee, Calif.; sister, Anna Mae (Robert) Lyons and sister-in-law, Marcella Miller, both of Rensselaer.
He was predeceased by his parents and his wife, two brothers, Earl and Marvin Miller, and two sisters, Pauline Newcome and Doris Alson.
Friends will be received at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer Friday, April 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the Jackson Funeral Chapel Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rensselaer with military honors.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
